You’d think that one successful company is enough for one. But Marton Balázs thinks differently. Marton is the creator of 1D Sails and M8 Foiling and his dream is no smaller than growing his passion and experiment with windfoiling sails and foiling into something outstanding. He wants to be the rebel of windfoiling and foiling gear with unique, handcrafted sails and high-quality foiling equipment that contradicts physics.
The Story of M8 Foiling.
M8 Foiling is the creation of Marton Balázs, the designer of the world-class 1D Sails.
A bit of history
His story with windsurfing started at a very young age, as he grew up by Hungary’s biggest lake, Lake Balaton. He couldn’t settle for good, but he constantly improved his equipment, and fine tuned the boards, the fins, the sails to be the best, the fastest he could be.
Championships
During the early 2000s Marton gave up windsurfing, to not only try, but to go to the extremes of sailing through championships.
1D Sails and windsurfing repair services
With his knowledge and experience, the 1D Sails brand and the loft by Lake Balaton was born in 2013. At that time windsurfing came back to their radar by providing repair services but that was also the time when their first sail, the SL A.D.D. was born.
Back to windsurfing
After a 4 year break, where Marton and his team was focusing on 1D Sails and the design and production of unique catamaran and foiling boat sails, windsufring and windfoiling drifted back into Marton’s life. Some of their sailors contacted them for special windfoils.
M8 Windfoiling was born
This gave them the idea of using the quality and know-how of the European and World Champion 1D Sails and turn it into a thriving new brand, for world-class quality, unique windfoils. In the summer of 2018, M8 Windfoiling was born.
The brand is expanding! W8 Foiling for the win!
The team did not have to wait long and they've found themselves in the middle of designing foiling equipment! The brand name changed to M8 Foiling and a brand new product set was launched.

The M8 sails are built in the 1D Sails loft in Balatonfűzfő, located near lake Balaton, Hungary. It’s not a huge factory, but the origin of all handcrafted, high performance sails winning many world titles in different catamaran classes, in foiling and non-foiling divisions. The M8 sails therefore are produced from design to delivery with the experience, knowledge and know-how of the well-known 1D Sails by our well-equipped crew.
